The laws and penalties for a DUI will vary by state. If you either refused to take a chemical test or you failed the test with a BAC above the legal limit of 0.08% in almost every state you will face administrative penalties from the Department of Motor Vehicles (or the equivalent department) in your state and will have your license suspended (unless you successfully challenge the suspension through an administrative hearing).

If you are convicted of a DUI you also are likely to lose your license. Unfortunately, you did not tell me where you were arrested or whether this was your first, second or third DUI conviction. Review our State DUI pages for more specific information.
